For months, office worker Kevin Lawrence has carried a torch for Joey Goldman, head driver at the haulage company where they both work. One rainy night, Kevin slips and falls on a patch of motor oil and Joey is there to catch him.

Despite being damaged both emotionally and physically from previous relationships, Kevin is helplessly drawn to the dominant trucker. Joey’s muscles and rugged good looks means he never has trouble finding men to take to bed. But no man has managed to get under his skin ... until Kevin.

Life for Joey soon becomes complicated. He isn’t out to his family, but feels an increasing need to be Kevin’s Sir -- to love, protect and guide his submissive lover.

Can Joey and Kevin make the journey together, or will outside forces and internal fears cause them to travel in opposite directions?

Trucker and Pup Drew Hunt 9781463587628 Books

Ugh...this was one of those books where the sub was a life-time victim...for me this almost ruins the submissive act because they are just so damn needy. "Oh Sir you are so strong"..."Oh Sir I don't deserve happiness/love/kindness/etc." I wanted to call a halt & get Kevin into therapy...his weeping & clingy wimpiness...argh.

Anyway, there are probably some good points if this is your kind of kink...mild puppy play...cock docking...lots of British-isms...'real' men who fart & share far too much detail about their bodily functions (I really don't want to read about every bowel motion & need to wee *eye roll*).

In a nutshell, I won't re-read this & I would have difficulty recommending it too. My other gripe is the price...$8 is just too much to pay for, what is essentially one long whine with an unsatisfying end.

Trucker and Pup Drew Hunt 9781463587628 Books Reviews

Warning This review might contain what some people consider SPOILERS.

Rating 5/10

PROS
- I'm a total sucker for stories about abused characters who finally meet someone who is strong and domineering but gentle at the same time.
- I've read quite a few books about someone discovering to his surprise that he's submissive--usually when a Dom comes along and takes a liking to him. It was fun to read a story in which those roles were reversed where it's the sub who understands his nature and the Dom who's just figuring things out.
- Joey's mother made me cackle more than once. She's constantly dropping in and pressing her Jewish faith onto her son. Sure, she's annoying. But Hunt captures the annoyingness of such a person quite well.
- There are a number of expressions used throughout the book that I found odd and a little baffling, but in a good way. I'm not sure whether they're common British sayings or phrases the author came up with himself, but they often made me chuckle. (My favorite is when Joey refers to using the restroom as "draining the lizard.")

CONS
- Saying that I found the ending "unsatisfying" doesn't capture my feelings about it. I don't want to include any outright spoilers, but I will say the following at the end of the book, 1) the story veers off of its established path in a bad way; 2) one of the men makes a mistake that causes a lot of emotional pain for the other, and I didn't see NEAR enough remorse over that; and 3) they decide in the final couple of pages that the original (HUGE) foundation for their relationship is no longer valid because of another recent development in their lives.
- (This is an extension of the point above, but it's a big one, so I made it a separate bullet.) There's not enough time devoted to resolving the main conflict. The whole story moves rather slowly in that it's chapter after chapter of the men's blissful relationship--sex scene here, shopping scene there, Joey being protective here, Kevin being adoring there--and then at the end, we get a single scene of resolution after a very emotionally hurtful conflict.
- The characters here do not live within the realm of reality. (Not as I know it, anyway.) Their actions are impulsive and melodramatic, and their emotions are roller-coaster-like very high highs, and very low lows. Here's a statement from the story that I think illustrates the entire book's tendency to avoid logic in favor of convenience or drama (this happens immediately after the two men speak for essentially the first time ever) "As he travelled down the rain-swept streets, Joey realised he hadn't asked where Kevin lived...he'd just have to take the man back to his place."

Overall comments I would have liked this okay if it had ended about three-quarters of the way through. The development at that point in the story unfortunately takes the focus off of the romance and causes a huge conflict that is ultimately resolved...but is not, in my opinion, resolved well.
Tired of stories about twinks, and rich men? Read this book. Great character development, with relatable flawed sex characters. Emotional, sexy and heartfelt.
I loved this story from beginning to end! Kevin was an angel who needed the love of a good man, and Joey was just the man to give it to him. Joey is a man-slut who never sees the same guy twice, until the moment he finally 'notices' Kevin, a co-worker. There's no doubt in Joey's heart that this is the boy for him, no matter how strange and scary it might be to finally commit to one person. The couple goes through some ups and downs, and there's some angst as they find their way. Joey in particular is afraid of his mother's reaction when and if he can find the courage to come out as a gay man.

**Possible spoiler**
Joey has a serious decision to make when he feels he's forced to choose between raising his nephew (whose mother doesn't really want him) and Kevin. Joey really doesn't blame his own whirlwind, meddling mother for feeling he has to choose between the nephew and Kevin, but himself for not standing up for himself and what he wants--to be out as Kevin's partner. But things are not as Joey believed.

In the end, it's sweet and shy Kevin who has to be the strong one and come through for his man, which in my opinion was entirely appropriate considering the position Joey has found himself in.

**End spoiler**

Great story! If you're looking for a cozy read about a shy pup and his man, I can't recommend it strongly enough.
This is a lot of fun. It's worth reading just for scenes with his mother. Sex scenes are nice, but the secondary characters help a lot. This is not something to take too seriously, but a nice distraction for a few hours.
Convoluted and drags out too long. The story needs work too, the attempt at Dom/sub is really weak and the cultural nuances are sad.
